ANAMBRA: GOV. OBIANO CAUTIONS DRIVERS AGAINST RECKLESS DRIVING

Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano
has cautioned drivers against reckless
driving following the recent road accident
which claimed the lives of nine persons
along
the Oko-Ajali road in Orumba North
local government area of the state.
Speaking during a requiem mass held for
the deceased at St. Gregory De Great
Catholic Parish, Nanka, Orumba-North
local government area, Governor Obiano,
who was represented by his deputy, Dr.
Nkem Okeke, warned motorists especially
during the Christmas and New Year
periods, to observe traffic rules to ensure
the safety of their passengers and other
road users.
Governor Obiano who described the
accident as avoidable, admitted that it is
the duty of the governments at various
levels to provide good roads, just as he
said that the citizens should be careful
while using the roads to avoid loss of
lives.
Earlier in his homily, the Catholic Bishop
of Awka, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor,
urged the families of the accident victims
to bear their loses with fortitude, saying
that “it is very painful when people out of
carelessness destroy the lives of others”.
Speaking earlier, wife of the state
governor, Chief (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu
Obiano said that her heart bled when the
sad news of the auto-crash was broken
to her while she was out of the state.
“It is with the same heavy heart that I
stand today to commiserate with the
Bishop, the Parish Priest and the bereaved
families”, she said.
